32nd Annual Irish Evening of Music and Poetry

HoCoPoLitSo, the Howard County Poetry and Literature Society, will host its 32nd Annual Evening of Irish Music and Poetry with award winning short story writer Claire Keegan on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 8 PM at the Jim Rouse Theater, 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia, MD 21044. Tickets are $30 general admission. Tickets are available online or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope and check payable to HoCoPoLitSo, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD.

A recent winner of the 2009 Davy Byrnes Irish Writing Award, Keegan, originally from County Wicklow, has published two collections of short stories, Antarctica (1999) and Walk the Blue Fields (2007). Her previous awards include The Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, Macaulay Fellowship and the William Trevor Prize. HoCoPoLitSo’s 2006 Irish writer Anne Enright calls Keegan’s work, “Perfect short stories.”

Ms. Keegan’s reading will be followed by Narrowbacks, Eileen Korn, Jesse Winch, Terence Winch, Linda Hickman, and Brendan Mulvihill on fiddle in a concert of traditional Irish music with stepdancers from the Culkin School.
